Canada to provide $2.5M in humanitarian aid for Rohingya women, children

UN chief calls Myanmar's crackdown on Rohingya 'ethnic cleansing'

"Many of the Rohingya who flooded into refugee camps in Bangladesh told of Myanmar soldiers shooting indiscriminately, burning their homes and warning them to leave or die". "This violence must stop, this persecution must stop".

Almost 15,000 have received refugee documentation, according to the United Nations, but India wants to deport them all.

The UN refugee agency says not enough aid is getting through to the Rohingya who have fled to Bangladesh.

He said he understood that Myanmar's Aung San Suu Kyi, a Nobel prize laureate and de-facto head of the government in Myanmar, was in a power-sharing agreement with the military and the "complex situation" in which she found herself.

The UN Security Council was to hold an urgent meeting on Wednesday to discuss the crisis.

The decision to deport Rohingyas comes as Myanmar's military crackdown in Rakhine has forced hundreds of thousands of Rohingyas to seek shelter in Bangladesh, in a process the United Nations has described as ethnic cleansing.

Some 379,000 Rohingya have fled to Bangladesh since violence began last month.

Guterres was more emphatic - he didn't say the attacks merely looked like ethnic cleansing.

'Last Chance U' Star, Ex-Indiana Player Charged In Tennessee Homicide
Police said 22-year-old Camion Patrick was taken into custody by Indiana University campus police in Bloomington, Indiana. With the Hoosiers last season, he caught six passes for 154 yards and a touchdown, and rushed four times for 10 yards.

The attacks triggered a sweeping military counter-offensive against the insurgents, whom the government has described as terrorists.

Suu Kyi isn't technically the president.

Her limited comments so far have referenced a "huge iceberg of misinformation" and played down alleged atrocities against the Rohingya.

Hafiz Saeed, the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack mastermind, has urged the Rohingya Muslims fleeing Myanmar to "join jihad".

The Myanmar government "and State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi in particular, should condemn unequivocally all incitement to racial or religious hatred and combat social discrimination and hostilities against the Rohingya minority", said the resolution.

BJP spokesperson GVL Narasimha Rao had said the Centre is fulfilling all its humanitarian obligations but it can not overlook the manner in which a large number of illegal immigrants have been residing in Indian and posing a challenge to the security of the country.

Military response: Myanmar's military said it is fighting Rohingya militants but hasn't targeted civilians, BBC reported. Denied citizenship by Myanmar, the Rohingya are loathed in Buddhist-majority Myanmar and unwanted by Bangladesh, which is providing temporary shelter to the refugees. Ms Hasina toured the makeshift refugee camps this week and said that the people in them "belonged" to Myanmar.
