Jurgen Klopp has implored Liverpool to learn the lessons of their Manchester City hammering ahead of their Champions League campaign.

The Brazilian has yet to appear for the team this season following a back injury, but Klopp confirmed that Coutinho will at least be on the bench on Wednesday evening.

Klopp's Reds were mauled 5-0 by Manchester City on Saturday, following Sadio Mane's controversial red card, but return to European action on Wednesday night with a home clash against old foes Sevilla. Listen to the latest episode and subscribe to the podcast on Deezer and iTunes.

"I'm not sure it's quite that easy, but if it is - if we bring him (Coutinho) in and then everything is great again - then that's cool", said Klopp, defending the reasoning for initially prolonging his absence.

Liverpool will face Spanish outfit Seville in their next Champions League match.

Former Liverpool man Luis Garcia, who was part of the Reds team that won the Champions League in Istanbul in 2005, believes Jurgen Klopp must end the club's trophyless run this term.

"So we thought "Let's give him three or four days' proper training - and then he's available for us which is good news".

Liverpool's last trophy win came in 2012 when they beat Cardiff City in the League Cup.

"Sometimes it's impossible after the worldwide break - different plans, different positions, they played all over the world, I don't like this but we can not change it - but you saw City struggled also a little bit".
