Politics of polarisation needs to be eradicated from India: Rahul targets Centre

Rahul Gandhi could be elevated as Congress president

Explaining his point, he said that those who did not have jobs believed that electing Modi and helping the BJP come to power would lead to job creation, something that Congress had failed to do.

On Tuesday, September 19, Gandhi interacted with a few students on the Princeton University in NY and discussed an array of topics such as India-US relations, Donald Trump, Narendra Modi, the hits and misses of the Congress government, and India and China's position in the world.

At an event in the United States recently, Rahul Gandhi had said he was "absolutely ready" to take up an executive responsibility if the party asked him to do so. "That is what is being challenged in India today", the Gandhi scion said.

In a candid self-reflection, Mr. Gandhi said the UPA governments from 2004 to 2014 also could not achieve the required numbers of jobs that the growing population of India needs. "If you, as a modern country, are unable to give them jobs, it's hard to give them vision", said Rahul.

"Large part of our populations do not have jobs and can not see a future".

Referring to blue collar jobs, Gandhi said China dominates them because they have a particular type of political system.

PM Modi inaugurates 'Sardar Sarovar Dam' on his 67th birthday
Several movements were launched against the Sardar Sarovar Dam, which came under the same umbrella "Narmada Bachao Andolan". Surjewala further criticising the Modi government said that it had failed to establish a proper network for the project.

Rahul also spoke on the problem of gender equality. "But, certainly our prime minister is not doing enough (in creating jobs)", said the Congress leader on Tuesday.

Rahul said that PM Modi's Make-in-India programme should concentrate on promoting small businesses instead of targeting large business.

Rahul also said that it was very important for India to compete with China expeditiously as it is moving ahead with 'tremendous power'. He also said India and the U.S. have a lot of potential when it comes to creating jobs and boosting the education sector. To me, the challenge is how to solve that problem in a democratic environment.

Disruption of harmony, "is the central risk that India is facing", he said. In the 21st century, if you leave people out of this vision, you are asking for trouble. There is a belt of 100 million tribal people.

"There are a number of States in India which don't want a single vision forced down their throats". Where you pick one community over another, you create spaces for other people to come in. "I do not need to name who those people are, but it opens up space for them", Rahul said.

Asked about the Congress's Policy Planning group's visit to Kashmir, Deputy Chief Minister said that as far as the democracy of the country is concerned, everybody has right to meet people. It is a deeper problem, so we have to first accept it as a problem and then we have to unite at solving it.
