Tillerson Considers Closing Embassy in Havana Where Diplomats Mysteriously Got Sick

S OF THE YEAR 2016

The Trump administration is considering closing down the recently reopened US Embassy in Havana following a string of unexplained incidents harming the health of American diplomats in Cuba, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson says.

Mr. Tillerson's comments, made on "Face the Nation" on CBS, were the strongest indication to date that the United States might mount a major diplomatic response, potentially jeopardizing the historic detente. "It's a very serious issue". Tillerson also confirmed the State Department has brought home some of the people affected.

A handful of GOP senators have called on Tillerson to take stronger action to protect USA diplomats from acoustic attacks in Cuba.

In the past nine months, 21 USA employees and family members in Havana have suffered mysterious injuries ranging from hearing loss and concussions to headaches and ear-ringing.

President Obama reopened diplomatic ties with Cuba and became first U.S. president to visit the island since 1928.

The American Foreign Service Association said that the symptoms faced by the American embassy employees in Cuba included mild traumatic brain injury, permanent hearing loss, loss of balance, severe headaches and brain swelling.

Some victims felt vibrations or heard loud sounds mysteriously audible in only parts of rooms, leading investigators to consider a potential "sonic attack".

Geyser has pleaded not guilty by reason of mental disease to being a party to first-degree attempted intentional homicide. Melissa Westendorf was appointed by a judge to evaluate one of the girls, Anissa Weier , now 15, after her insanity plea.

"Cuba is our friend. and that we are going to contribute at this moment, we have always helped each other", Raafenberg said.

Investigators have suggested the possibility that the attacks have been carried out by a third party, like Russian Federation, unbeknownst to the Cuban government.

In a rare face-to-face conversation, Castro told us diplomat Jeffrey DeLaurentis that he was equally baffled, and concerned.

US officials have still not identified who exactly is behind the attacks, but various news reports have suggested that the Cuban government may be working in conjunction with foreign operatives, perhaps from Russian Federation.

The embassy's Regional Security Officer, a member of the State Department's Bureau of Diplomatic Security, was hit by the attacks according to two sources familiar with the incidents.

While the culprits and their motives remain unclear, USA politicians are growing impatient with the situation.
