Trump And Seoul Talk 'Rocket Man,' Vowing More Pressure On North Korea

To shoot down or not? North Korea launch highlights intercept issues

U.S. President Donald Trump, who was due to address the U.N.in NY on Tuesday, spoke by phone to his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping on Monday, with the White House saying the two men were committed to "maximizing pressure on North Korea". The test came in the wake of tougher sanctions imposed by the United Nations following the country's sixth nuclear test early this month.

It's hard to understand what the Pentagon could do to stop a North Korean nuclear program, or take out its leader Kim Jong-un, while preventing Pyongyang from fighting back. "And so for those who have said and have been commenting about the lack of a military option, there is a military option".

Analysts say North Korea looked at the fate of other authoritarian regimes, particularly Libya under Moammar Gadhafi and Iraq under Saddam Hussein, and concluded that their lack of nuclear weapons left them vulnerable to being toppled by the USA and its allies.

"North Korea is pretty much cut off from the world", she said on CNN's "State of the Union" on Sunday.

The advance warnings - with one report saying Vice President Mike Pence saw pictures of the missile a day before it was launched on Friday - raise questions about why the US and Japan didn't try to shoot it down.

Moscow backs Beijing's proposal for a freeze on North Korea's nuclear and missile tests in exchange for a suspension of US-South Korea military drills, which China blames for fanning regional tensions.

Trump, who has spent two nights at his golf resort in Bedminster, N.J., also revealed that he spoke with South Korean President Moon Jae-in, who will join Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe for a trilateral dinner this week in NY to collaborate on addressing North Korea's growing nuclear and ballistic missile threats.

Rohingya crisis is foreign policy matter for India, says Former AG Rohatgi
The lawyer representing the Rohingya said the decision was discriminatory. The hearing will continue next month. There are also some in Pakistan.

Its request, however, was rejected during talks with Joseph Yun, special representative for North Korea policy, and Eliot Kang, acting assistant secretary of the Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation.

The effectiveness of the sanctions depends largely on whether China, North Korea's ally and main economic partner, will fully implement them.

Trump, in a tweet, asserted that long lines for gas were forming in North Korea, and he said that was "too bad".

"You could credit the Kim regime with taking regime change off the table", says the U.S. Naval War College's Goldstein.

Kim is also expected to make a separate visit to the worldwide credit rating agency during his NY trip in order to further discuss Korea's economic and credit rating situations. He identifies the North Korean threat as unprecedented, serious and immediate.

The United States and its allies knew the North Koreans had fired a missile and tracked its path over Japan last week.
