Trump 'looks forward' to signing resolution condemning white supremacists

Stephen Friedrich front and Scott Douglas set out candles for Heather Heyer Aug. 13 as hundreds gather for a memorial and march in response to violence in Virginia at Woodruff Park in Atlanta. A reader says violence is a likely outcome when guns and hat

"Tonight, the House of Representatives spoke in one unified voice to unequivocally condemn the shameful and hate-filled acts of violence carried out by the KKK (Ku Klux Klan), white nationalists, white supremacists and neo-Nazis in Charlottesville", Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.) said in a statement.

Scott said he told the president Wednesday "there is no way to find an equilibrium when you have three centuries of history versus the situation that's occurring today".

Most political pundits hastily agreed that stumping for unapologetic racists is, generally speaking, a bad look for a sitting President of the United States, which is why even alarmed Republicans in the House and Senate have been frantically cooking up ideas on how to get their party's leader to clarify his stance on the subject.

On the day of Heyer's death, President Trump denounced hatred and violence "on many sides", a comment that drew appalled reactions from across the political spectrum as it did not condemn white nationalists specifically. Tim Scott's been a friend of mine for a long time.

Sanders - who attended the meeting with Vice President Mike Pence, White House legislative affairs director Marc Short, deputy legislative affairs director Mary Elizabeth Taylor and Scott's chief of staff Jennifer DeCasper - called the meeting constructive. "You look at both sides - I think there's blame on both sides, and I have no doubt about it, and you don't have any doubt about it either". The White House misidentified him as Tom Scott.

The Senate's lone black Republican said he told President Trump to tread carefully when discussing the country's complicated history on race.

"The real picture has nothing to do with who is on the other side", Scott explained following the meeting, according to The New York Times.

That goal was at a crucial time for us and gave us a boost and brought us back into a confident zone. All the other things, I can agree or not, but they are irrelevant, to the way I look at my job".

After his presidential one-on-one, Scott said it was those same themes that drove him to ask for a meeting with the president.

She adds, "If a stylist dressed the president, they should be fired".

While it was likely that Trump would lend his signature to the bipartisan resolution, it was not certain.

"I certainly think if he's looking for a model of reconciliation, he need to look no further than Charleston, South Carolina, and Mother Emanuel AME Church", Scott said. Tim Scott to discuss race relations in wake of the incidents in Charlottesville, Virginia. During his speech, Trump equated the actions of White supremacists to those who were protesting them.

Trump's effort to move past his despicable Charlottesville response by inviting the only black Senator into the Oval Office backfired horribly and was nothing more than a photo-op for the president.

When asked about the comment on Wednesday, Sanders called the tweet "a fireable offense".
