Vigil For Slain LGBT Student Leader At Georgia Tech Turns Violent

GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Atlanta, GA

The student's parents say they don't understand why lethal force had to be used.

Violent protests broke out at a peaceful vigil held for an LGBTQ student who was shot dead by campus police last night (Monday 18).

Vincent Castillenti, Jacob Wilson and Cassandra Monden were arrested and charged with inciting a riot and battery of an officer, a university spokesman told the Miami Herald.

The board of directors of Georgia Tech Pride Alliance, for which Schultz served as president for the past two years, released a statement saying the group was deeply saddened by Schultz's death and hailing Schultz's work and dedication on behalf of the organization as an inspiration. Intersex is a condition in which a person's physical sex characteristics do not align with typical notions of male and female.

According to the AP, suicide notes were found in the student's dorm room, and Schultz was the one who called 911. Lynne Schultz asked the paper.

"We believe many of them were not part of our Georgia Tech community, but rather outside agitators intent on disrupting the event".

Earlier on Monday, family attorney L. Chris Stewart said Schultz was barefoot and "disoriented", in the middle of a "mental breakdown".

After that, Scout Schultz went through counselling, William Schultz said. "Four of them did not listen to that and continued to do their job, to de-escalate the situation, but one of them made a decision to take Scout's life".

Bill Schultz said recently Scout had expressed interest in the anti-fascist political movement and frustration with news coverage of police-involved shootings.

Footage of the moment Schultz was shot has emerged online.

How Theresa May brokered peace deal with Boris Johnson amid resignation fears
May has called a cabinet meeting for Thursday where she will ask ministers for approval of her speech before delivering it Friday. Speaking in New York , Johnson was asked by reporters if he planned to resign in footage aired by Sky News.

The GBI said in its statement that the investigation into the circumstances surrounding Schultz's shooting death remains ongoing. And since January 2015, USA police have killed at least 392 people who were armed with knives, blades or other edged weapons - 102 deaths this year alone, including Schultz.

Investigators recovered a multi-purpose tool at the scene but didn't find any guns, Miles said. Its blade was not extended, according to The Journal Constitution.

"Come on, man, let's drop the knife", an officer, gun drawn, tells the student.

Video shows officers repeatedly telling Schultz to drop the weapon as the student advances. Another asked, "What's going on, man?"

"I saw a couple of students forced to the ground handcuffed".

Shortly after that a single shot was sacked, followed by the sound of anguished screaming.

On Monday night, Georgia Tech issued alerts urging students to shelter indoors because of violent protests. At 11:50 p.m. students received a second text: "There is no longer a threat to campus". Losing a student, friend, colleague, and campus leader is one of the most hard experiences that any of us will have to face.

The dean said the death was "devastating news for the Schultz family, classmates, and for members of the community who knew Scout personally, the shock and grief are particularly acute".

After the vigil for Scout Schultz, leader of the school's Pride Alliance, dozens of protesters marched to campus police headquarters, chanting "Justice now" and "This is not OK", CNN reports.

"This is how we truly honour Scout's life and legacy".
