Bulls ban Portis eight games for breaking teammate's jaw

Nikola Mirotic is entering his fourth season with the Bulls. More

More details continue to emerge in the ugly incident between Chicago Bulls teammates Nikola Mirotic and Bobby Portis.

Chicago Bulls forward Nikola Mirotic suffered a fractured jaw and a concussion after fighting with team mate BobbyPortis in practice, the National Basketball Association reported on its website on Tuesday.

The suspension came after Portis and Mirotic got into it during a practice on Tuesday and ended with Portis laying out Mirotic with a single punch that broke multiple bones in Mirotic's face and gave him a concussion. Hopefully, Mirotic and Portis will be able to hash things out.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Mirotic stayed on the ground for several minutes following the punch before getting up.

Bulls executive vice president John Paxson said Wednesday that Mirotic is expected to miss four to six weeks after suffering fractures to his upper jaw and a concussion.

The Bulls announced Tuesday that surgery is likely for Mirotic.

Paxson said that the Bulls got counsel from the league on how to handle the situation.

There's a lot of high expectations for Portis, the 22-year-old Little Rock, Ark. native, who averaged 6.8 points and 4.6 rebounds for the Bulls last season. Portis will be allowed to practice with the Bulls during his suspension.
