German Football Team distracts from losses by kneeling down

Hertha Berlin Players

Hertha Berlin players and coaching staff showed solidarity with black athletes in the United States by "taking a knee" before their match against Schalke on Saturday.

The starting line-up, substitutes, chief executive Michael Preetz and chief coach Pal Dardai and his training staff took part in the gesture before the Bundesliga match against Schalke in the Olympic Stadium.

The club then posted a picture on their official Twitter account with the caption: "Hertha BSC stands for tolerance and responsibility!"

President Trump said NFL players who refused to stand during the national anthem should be fired, comments that led to a large number of protests involving American football teams and owners.

The series of protests began a year ago, with former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick taking the stance during the American national anthem, as a demonstration against the treatment of black Americans by authorities.

Flight 666 to HEL on Friday the 13th Arrives Safely
If you're scared of the number 666, you may have hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia. "It's only a coincidence for me", he added. The airline has 15 more scheduled trips for Flight 666 before the flight number is retired on October 29.

The protest's spread to Europe is just another symptom of the spotlight placed on the gesture after President Donald Trump made it a signature issue, telling a crowd in Arizona in September that any player that kneels in the National Football League should be fired.

According to ESPN, the stadium's announcer explained the team's protest, saying that, "Hertha BSC stands for diversity and against violence". Of course, even when Ravens players took a knee before the anthem, fans still booed, so obviously it was never about that anyway.

Hertha forward Salomon Kalou said, "Hertha always stands against racism".

"The idea comes from the whole team". "If we can fight against that as a team, and as the city of Berlin, then that's something we want to do".
