Kenya's opposition leader Raila Odinga quits election rerun

Kenya: 37 killed in post-election violence

Kenya's Supreme Court nullified the result of the presidential vote after Odinga lodged a complaint, claiming that IEBC computers had been hacked to generate a victory for Uhuru Kenyatta.

The protests started after the electoral body announced incumbent President Uhuru Kenyatta as the victor of the August 8 election.

His Jubilee Party has instead used its parliamentary majority to pass changes in the electoral law ahead of the October 26 that the opposition says are meant to make the transmission of results a manual process that has less safeguards against electoral fraud and makes it more hard for the Supreme Court to annul a presidential election. The 2017 presidential elections are only the second being conducted under the new constitution, so this puts Kenya in uncharted waters.

He highlighted six reasons why NASA withdrew from the race.

"Kenyans must be allowed to move on".

The Supreme Court annulled the result of the original 8 August poll after finding irregularities and declaring it "neither transparent or verifiable".

"We are trying to prevent a crisis should there be no elections", he said. Many Kenyans know that the election of August 8 was free and fair.

Mr Kenyatta said the October 26 election will go ahead despite Mr Odinga's withdrawal.

Yankees' Girardi on Game 2 loss: 'I feel disgusting about it'
I know his knees hurt at times and they're a little creaky, but, no, he's a really good athlete and he can manipulate the ball. Sabathia was only at 77 pitches, he wasn't falling apart, and the Yankees had a five-run lead.

He said the commission had "stonewalled meaningful deliberations" on reforms to ensure the election is credible, and warned that the upcoming vote could be more badly run than the first one.

Mr Kenyatta has said he does not want changes to the election commission.

Odinga also wants independent global experts to be engaged to manage the entire ICT framework of the elections, with close supervision of the candidates' agents and the IEBC.

"It is my democratic right not to participate in a pre-rigged election", Odinga told journalists.

He vowed that until their demands are met, there will be demonstrations every Monday and Friday, and they will not be ready for the October 26 election re-run.

They said they have slowed down their activities because "there is no need to campaign for an election you will not participate in".

"But Odinga says that the IEBC has refused to even listen to the some of the demands - demands that the NASA coalition says are reasonable - that they have been making".
