Tiger Woods to make return to competitive golf

Tiger Woods has been given the all clear to play competitive golf again by his surgeon

Tiger Woods announced on his website Monday that he will return to competitive golf next month in the Hero World Challenge.

It's been nine months since Tiger Woods last played competitive golf. He's also won the event five times.

His fourth back surgery came in April and he has only started hitting shots this month. Citing back pain, he withdrew from the Omega Dubai Desert Classic after shooting 77 in the opening round, which came one week after a missed cut at the PGA Tour's Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines.

After weeks of videos and speculation, Tiger Woods made it official: He's coming back.

"Albany is the ideal setting and it will be great to join this outstanding field", Woods said.

The Hero World Challenge runs from November 30 to December 3. I want to thank Pawan Munjal and Hero MotoCorp for their continued support of this tournament and my foundation.

Nationals name Dave Martinez as manager
The Washington Nationals will hire Chicago Cubs bench coach Dave Martinez as its next manager, reports FanRag Sports' Jon Heyman. Martinez was a coach on the Rays' staff that went to the 2008 World Series, as well as the Cubs' 2016 World Championship team.

The 18-player field will be a good benchmark for Woods to measure his progress, as other golfers scheduled to play include six of the top eight golfers in the current world rankings: Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth, Hideki Matsuyama, Justin Thomas, Jason Day, and Rickie Fowler.

We take a look at a selection of notable records Woods has either broken or threatened in his illustrious career to date.

He was joint birdie leader for the tournament but ultimately finished 15th out of 17 players.

The former world No 1, 41, faces up to 90 days in jail if he violates his year-long probation.

He showed flashes of the brilliant golf that carried him to 14 major titles.

Woods recently pleaded guilty in a Florida court to reckless driving and entered a program for first-time offenders to avoid a conviction on the charge of driving under the influence.
