It was later reported that the court sentenced him to three years in prison on the charges of espionage and illegally entering Pakistan. She was due to appear before the Commission for Missing Persons the next day. Young Pakistani journalist Zeenat Shahzadi "missing" for 2 years, is back.

Zeenat had also filed an application with the Supreme Court of Pakistan's human rights cell on behalf of Fauzia Ansari, thereby playing an important role in encouraging Islamabad's Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances to investigate his case. Zeenat had travelled to Kohat and discovered that Ansari had been in police custody.
