Attorney: Alleged Rand Paul assault had nothing to do with politics

US Senator Rand Paul's ribs broken in assault at home

If convicted, Boucher could serve up to a year behind bars. In the statement, Baker also noted the two worked together when they "were both practicing physicians".

Rene Boucher has been charged with assaulting Sen.

Asked if he might have to delay some votes, McConnell said: "I haven't had a chance to check with him (Paul) yet today about it". Paul's Communications director made this statement when he was assaulted at his Warren County. But by Sunday, it emerged that Paul's injuries are more serious than first thought.

"Senator Paul has five rib fractures including 3 displaced fractures". Doug Stafford, a senior strategist for Paul, said the injury was the result of "high-velocity severe force". "It is not clear exactly how soon he will return to work, as the pain is considerable as is the difficulty in getting around, including flying."‬.

An ophthalmologist, he represents Kentucky in the US Senate and is the son of former Congressman Ron Paul, who ran for president several times.

Boucher was released on Saturday on $7,500 bond and ordered to not have any contact with Paul, his family or offices or to obtain any firearms or weapons of any kind, according to bond paperwork provided by the county. He faces a court date on Thursday.

Spain issues arrest warrant for ex-Catalan president
Spanish government spokesman Inigo Mendez de Vigo deflected questions by the media regarding the jailing of the Catalan officials. Mr Vila resigned in protest a day before Catalonia's parliament voted in favour of a declaration of independence.

Neighbors told local TV station WAVE that the pair share a corner adjacent to their homes and have been in the midst of a feud.

According to the arrest warrant, Boucher "unlawfully and intentionally caused physical injury and pain to the victim".

The Blaze, Glenn Beck's online news site, told readers on Sunday that FBI investigators believed "the attack, which occurred Friday afternoon, was politically motivated". Online records state that Boucher's party affiliation is Democrat. The two had previously been seen having "heated discussions" about political issues, including healthcare.

Boucher was released from jail on Saturday. The charge of fourth-degree assault is a Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to 12 months in jail. Kentucky's Bowling Green Daily News reported the senator also has lung contusions.

Boucher applied for a patent for the vest in 2003 and has marketed it through the QVC shopping channel.

In May, Boucher posted on his Facebook page about Trump "bullying" North Atlantic Treaty Organisation leaders and an article about and Congressman Greg Gianforte assaulting The Guardian's Ben Jacobs in Bozeman, Montana.
