Los Angeles Rams vs New York Giants

The success of the Rams hinges on the performance of Jared Goff

In the final minutes of the second quarter, Manning committed another turnover after being intercepted by Trumaine Johnson at the Giants 30 on a poorly thrown ball intended for Roger Lewis Jr., which set up a field goal and put the Rams up 27-10 at halftime. Orleans Darkwa ran for 71 yards on 16 carries. RB Todd Gurley had 104 all-purpose offensive yards and two rushing touchdowns.

On 3rd-and-2, Goff hit tight end Tyler Higbee in the middle of the end zone for an eight-yard touchdown.

While Goff recorded career highs in yards (311), touchdowns (four), and passer rating (146.8), the former first overall draft choice needed just 14 completions to get there. The Giants were driving again, and were particularly effective on the ground, and reached midfield when Rams linebacker Alec Ogletree burst into the NY backfield and stripped the ball from running back Wayne Gallman Jr. Receiver Robert Woods, who entered the game without a touchdown for the Rams, got two touchdowns Sunday and caught four passes for 70 yards.

The Rams, after a series of very bad penalties, faced a 3rd-and-33 play from their own 48.

After the Rams scored touchdowns on their first two possessions of the second half, the outcome had been decided. Higbee, not normally used as a receiver, opened the scoring with an 8-yard touchdown grab 4:05 into the contest.

The two teams traded field goals later in the second quarter, with cornerback Trumaine Johnson's second interception of the year leading to Zuerlein's.

Including a missed field goal by Aldrick Rosas for the fourth time in five games (he did not have an attempt in Week 5), the special teams outfit wasn't free of mistakes either.

Gurley capped the third-quarter scoring with a four-yard touchdown run, after linebacker Cory Littleton blocked his second punt in three games to give L.A. the ball on the NY 18-yard line. The first came on a Gurley one-yard run to cap a seven-play, 75-yard drive to open the second half.

NOTES: Giants QB Eli Manning became the seventh player in National Football League history to pass for 50,000 yards, joining Peyton Manning, Brett Favre, Tom Brady, Dan Marino, John Elway and Drew Brees. He made the score 48-17 with a 10-yard touchdown pass to rookie tight end Evan Engram.

Los Angeles is now 6-2 on the season at its midway point.
