The injury curse that has swept through the ATP Tour this year claimed another victim on Friday as Rafael Nadal was forced to withdraw from the Paris Masters. "It has been an fantastic year".

"It's a very hard decision, a tough and sad situation", Nadal said. One year ago, for sure I never dreamed about being world No 1 again at the end of the season.

Nadal was quoted to be saying by PTI, "Yesterday (Thursday), the pain was very strong but it was not the moment to stop".

The world No. 1 called the trainer to tape his right knee after losing the second set in his 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3 victory.

Ruling out the injury concerns, Nadal said that he is 100 percent fine and would be playing in London normally.

Nadal has enjoyed a remarkable resurgence in 2017, sparked by reaching the final of the Australian Open in January before winning his first major title in three years at the French Open in May; his 10th success at Roland Garros.

Around the Pac-12
CQ4 After the Sun Devils (4-4, 3-2 Pac-12) held down Washington and Utah, they were beaten up all over the field in a 48-17 loss. Hilinski threw for over 500 yards and two touchdowns with four interceptions in the loss to Arizona.

"The way that i am today i dont see myself playing three more matches, the knee is always bothering a little bit but sometimes its worse", he added.

Zverev, who has won two ATP Masters 1000 titles this season as Nadal did, recorded a comfortable 6-3 win in the first set. Then Nadal regrouped himself and took away the first set at 7-5 with a big forehand. "I think I know that he is sceptical on his chances to play in London", Forget said, as quoted by "Reuters". He will next face Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay.

After saving three match points in the tiebreaker, Schwartzman leveled the match when Isner made a forehand error.

Only one spot is left for the November 12-19 eight-man event at the O2 in London and Juan Martin del Potro will clinch it if the Argentine, who defeated Dutchman Robin Haase 7-5 6-4, reaches the last four.

Marin Cilic and Grigor Dimitrov, who also secured their places in ATP Finals, both came through their opening matches in Paris.

"It's going to be a good battle next round trying to qualify for London".
