Nationals' Max Scherzer wins NL Cy Young Award for 2nd straight season

Washington Nationals

Cleveland Indians right-hander Corey Kluber won his second American League Cy Young Award in four seasons on Wednesday. Kluber went 18-4 with a 2.25 ERA and three shutouts (tied for most in the majors) in 2017 to earn his second career Cy Young award.

Scherzer was revealed as the victor of this season's National League Cy Young Award, topping teammate Stephen Strasburg and Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw in a high-profile showdown of the best pitching the league had to offer in 2017.

Besides his 2016 Cy Young Award, Scherzer also won the 2013 award while pitching for the Detroit Tigers. Ten NL players received Cy Young votes in total, with Stephen Strasburg, Zack Greinke, Kenley Jansen and Gio Gonzalez coming in behind Scherzer and Kershaw.

Despite taking his third loss of the season, Kluber allowed only one walk, scattered five hits and one earned run and registered the 10 strikeouts over eight innings of work.

Scherzer enters high company with his third Cy Young award.

Kizer returns, but Browns still blow it, losing to Detroit 38-24
The clock expired before the Browns could get off another player , and Jackson responded with obvious anger on the sideline. The loss drops the Browns to 0-9 on the season and 1-24 under head coach Hue Jackson.

Both Strasburg and Kershaw missed considerable time with injuries while Scherzer stayed healthy, for the most part.

Kluber was up against Chris Sale of the Boston Red Sox and Luis Severino of the New York Yankees. He led Major League Baseball in wins (18), ERA (2.25), ERA+ (202), WHIP (0.87), K/BB (7.36), and WAR (+8.3). Still, the Nationals' second ace rode a dominant second half to the best overall season of his career, going 15-4 with a 2.52 ERA and 1.015 WHIP.

Kluber topped Sale in what turned out to be a two-man race. In August, Strasburg posted a 0.86 ERA and had an even better mark, 0.83, for September.

Congrats Kluber and thanks for a great season! Strasburg missed almost a month from the second half of July into the middle of August, but he was arguably the best pitcher in baseball after his return. But just like Kluber and Scherzer, he ended his year with a thud.
