Self-driving bus crashes on its first day of work

A driverless shuttle in Las Vegas crashed just hours after it was unveiled Wednesday

The driver of the truck has been cited for illegal backing. The exact circumstances of the accident are unknown; we have no idea if the autonomous shuttle was simply unable to back up to avoid the accident or if there was another vehicle too close to the shuttle bus to allow it to reverse out of harm's way. Over the course of a year, the self-driving shuttle aims at providing a quarter-million residents and visitors of Las Vegas with first-hand experience using autonomous vehicle (AV) technology, exposing most riders to the technology for the first time.

The shuttle is manufactured by NAVYA, comes equipped with LiDAR technology, GPS, cameras, and will seat 8 passengers with seatbelts. But, the truck continued backing up until its tires touched the front of the shuttle.

"The shuttle did what it was supposed to do, in that it's sensors registered the truck and the shuttle stopped to avoid the accident", the city said in a statement.

While the shuttle remained out of service for the rest of the day, the tests are set to continue for the duration of the 12-month pilot in the downtown Innovation District, officials say.

The crash, apparently, was not the shuttle's fault.

State Auditor Jim Zielgler Invokes Bible to Defend Roy Moore
John McCain . "He should immediately step aside and allow the people of Alabama to elect a candidate they can be proud of". Four women, now adults, told the WaPo that Moore pursued them romantically when he was grown man, and they were teenagers.

This shuttle bus can transport up to 15 people and was aimed to be used on the city's famous strip. But wait! According to a AAA spokesman, it wasn't even the shuttle's fault.

Vegas's self-driving shuttle is operating in real-time traffic, a first for any city in the nation, and so it is being closely watched by many.

The eight-passenger shuttle is now offering free rides to people along a half-mile loop in the city's Fremont East "Innovation District".

A spokesman for the City of Las Vegas told the BBC: "A delivery truck was coming out of an alley".

The AAA Free Self-Driving shuttle, an Arma vehicle built by Navya that utilizes LIDAR technology and Global Positioning System, was on a test run yesterday in the Fremont East neighborhood when it was hit by a delivery truck.
