Three die, 9 injured as train derails in UP

The Railway Ministry announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the kin of those dead in the Vasco Da Gama-Patna Express derailment in Uttar Pradesh and Rs 1 lakh for those with grievous injuries.

Relief operation immediately started and seven of the injured were taken to the Manikpur Community Health Centre while another two were referred to the district hospital in Chitrakoot.

Meanwhile, Chairman Railway Board Ashwani Lohani has rushed to the accident site.

The Home Department officials told IANS that rescue and relief operations were ongoing.

The 13 derailed coaches comprise S3, S4, S5, S6, S7, S8, S9, S10, S11, two extra sleeper coaches and two general coaches.

On Thursday, a local train hit avehicle near Amethi in UP, killing four and injuring two, and agoods train jumped the rails between Goraknath and Raghunathpur in Odisha.
