Jawan killed 2 injured in encounter in north Kashmir

Police say at least three suspected militants and an army commando have been killed in two separate gunbattles in disputed Kashmir.

The massive combing operation in Gujarpati forest area of Zirhama area of Kupwara continued for the second consecutive day today to nab the militants believed to be hiding in the area. There are no reports of any Indian casualty in the gun battle.

Khan said government forces were battling a few militants trapped in the area.

The police, CRPF and Army strengthened the cordon and tried to flush out the militants.

Nine militants of Lashkar-e-Taiba including top commander Mehmood Bhai, Zargam and nephew of 26/11 mastermind Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi have been eliminated in two operations of Hajin and Handwara since Saturday.
