United Kingdom manufacturing performance improves in October increasing likelihood of interest rates rise

Consensus suggests October's IHS Markit survey will show the UK's manufacturing index edging down a fraction, to 55.8 from 55.9 in September, when the results are released at 09:30am London time Tuesday. "Growth in India's manufacturing sector lost momentum in October", the report said. "The increase in new orders was also the fastest since May 2014", said IHS Markit's Sian Jones.

The U.S. Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index, a survey by IHS Markit, rose to 54.6 for October compared to 53.1 the month before.

Companies surveyed said they experienced new work from clients in the U.S. and mainland Europe as well as South America and Australia. Disappointingly, manufacturing production rose at the weakest pace in the current sequence of growth.

The pace of United Kingdom manufacturing activity rose in October, making a positive start to the fourth-quarter industrial outlook, but price pressures remained as input costs continued to rise. In response to subdued demand conditions, both purchasing activity and pre-production inventories decreased.

Further reports also suggest that growth activity is expected to increase gradually to 7.4 percent by 2020, driven by a recovery in private investments which continues to face several domestic hurdles like corporate debt, regulatory and policy challenges and the risk of an imminent increase in U.S. interest rates.

Microsoft's Surface Pro gets LTE Advanced option this December
No words on how built-in LTE might impact battery life, estimated at up to 13.5 hours for regular Surface Pro SKUs. The full name for the new laptop is Microsoft's Surface Pro with LTE Advanced .

There was further jobs creation, with the pace of growth hitting the highest in 40 months.

United Kingdom manufacturing activity and input prices both increased more than expected in October, a survey revealed on Wednesday, which was felt likely to increase the Bank of England's confidence about raising interest rates and its concerns about inflation.

More than 50% of manufacturers surveyed said they expected output to be higher in one year's time.

On the price front, input cost pressures rose to the fastest since May.

Despite a positive outlook and continued growth for United Kingdom manufacturing, cost pressures continue to build. Selling price inflation is now at the highest level for six months and input costs are rising at the fastest for seven months. "However, those manufacturers that were optimistic forecasted benefits of GST materialising over the next 12 months". That said, their ability to fully pass on higher input costs was restricted due to competitive conditions.
