PM Narendra Modi Flags Off 'Run For Unity' On Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's Birth Anniversary

It was a day of tributes as Tuesday marked the 142nd birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the first Deputy Prime Minister of India.

"The youth of India respects him and his contribution towards the building of our nation", the PM noted.

Mr Naidu also warned against forces attempting to threaten the unity and integrity of the country.

A press statement issued by the India Post said, "We have prepared three maxim cards on Sardar Vallabhai Patel - one at his birthplace, Nadiad; one at the place where he lived, is Karamsad; and one from where Patel's memorial is located, Shahibaug". Main yeh shapath apne desh ki ekta ki bhawna se le raha hun, jisey Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel ki doordarshita evam karyon dwara sambhaw banaya ja sakaa. Besides political leaders, people from the sports fraternity including Suresh Raina, Virendra Sehwag also urged people to remember Sardar Patel and participate in "Run for Unity".

The event witnessed several union ministers, senior officials and others also.

Gymnast Deepa Karmakar said, to remember the contributions of Patel in unifying the country, the run is being organized and she is proud of it.
