While Apple has made tentative comments toward shifting more aspects of iPhone production onshore in the last few years, cost remains the critical factor in the decision.

Finisar Corp is getting a $390 million investment from Apple to revive a plant in Texas. Finisar is only the second firm to see a grant from the fund, after Corning received $200 million in May of this year. Apple announced that it would invest $390 million (Rs. 2,513 crores approx.) in Finisar that it will use to build a plant in Sherman, Texas to make chips that will enhance many iPhone features such as Face ID, Animojis, and Portrait-mode selfies.

President Trump has been pushing Apple to move its manufacturing efforts from China to the U.S. On the campaign trial, Trump said: "We're going to get Apple to build their damn computers and things in this country instead of in other countries".

The lasers will also be used for 3D sensors in AirPods, Apple's wireless headphones.

When combined with the company's nearby plant in Allen, Texas, Finisar's payroll in Northern Texas is expected to be $65 million.

Sherman mayor David Plyler said: "Sherman is the flawless place for Finisar's significant investment in their operations and facilities and we couldn't be more grateful for their confidence". The new plant will create 500 "high-skill" jobs.

Two journalists arrested in Myanmar

'Technology is only as good as the people behind it, and Finisar is a company with a long history of putting its employees first and supporting the community it's a part of. "We're extremely proud that our involvement will help transform another American community into a manufacturing powerhouse". The iPhone X is now the only Apple product with a facial recognition sensor. Well, look for (or don't) more of that invisible magic in the future.

While the delivery wait times for the iPhone X have come down in recent weeks, Apple simply couldn't keep up with initial demand at launch.

The A11 chip then compares your facial structure to the facial scan stored in the iPhone X during the setup process.

How do you rate laser-based features like Face ID and Animoji?

Now, Apple has confirmed that it will just concentrate on Face ID for all its upcoming devices.
