Erica Garner, the activist daughter of police chokehold victim Eric Garner, whose death stirred the Black Lives Matter movement, has been described as brain dead by doctors five days after she suffered a massive heart attack.

Garner became widely known in activist circles after her father, Eric Garner, was choked to death by a NY police officer in July 2014.

The 27-year-old's mother, Esaw Snipes, told the New York Daily News that her daughter remained on life support Thursday and family members had gathered at Woodhull Hospital in Brooklyn to pay their respects.

When her son was born in August, she named her newborn after her fallen father.
