'General framework' in place with both Giants, Cardinals on Stanton deal

Stanton's Reps Receive Approval To Meet With Cardinals

As Morosi highlighted, though, Stanton has the ability to all but cease ongoing trade negotiations if he wants to hold out until another team enters the mix.

The Marlins have agreed to general framework of Stanton trades with the Giants and Cardinals, but neither deal can be completed as the Marlins wait to see if Stanton will accept either proposal, according to a Sunday afternoon report from MLB.com's Jon Morosi.

Giancarlo Stanton #27 of the Miami Marlins during the game between the Miami Marlins and the San Francisco Giants at Marlins Park on August 15, 2017 in Miami, Florida.

Representatives for the and slugger were meeting in Los Angeles on Thursday night as the Giants hoped to get an idea on whether the star might approve a trade there, sources confirmed to ESPN's Buster Olney. Per MLBPipeline.com, those are the Giants' second-, third- and fourth-rated prospects, respectively.

NCAA Ruling Will Not Cost Additional Scholarships for UM
Freeze resigned over off-field issues - including allegations that he repeatedly made phone calls to escort services - in July. The ruling said that Freeze promoted an atmosphere of rules compliance, but that he failed to monitor his staff.

Stanton has been aware of the possibility of a trade for months.

The Dodgers have been somewhat hesitant on Stanton due to their desire not to exceed the $197 million luxury tax threshold or add another nine-figure contract to the books beyond Clayton Kershaw's.

The Dodgers' best bet might be waiting for Stanton to force the Marlins' hand, if Los Angeles is in fact his preferred destination, and to take advantage of Miami's desperation to unload as much of that contract as possible.

Stanton has $295 million remaining on his 13-year deal worth $325 million. This story was not subject to the approval of Major League Baseball or its clubs.
