IPhone battery claims: Apple accused of forcing customers to upgrade 'slow' phones

Apple Reportedly Throttling Older iPhones

Apple on Wednesday responded to reports that older iPhones with low-capacity batteries are often slow.

If your handset is out of warranty, you can have your iPhone battery replaced through Apple for a $79 charge.

So, for iPhone 6, 6S, SE, and 7, Apple recently released a feature that throttles - or slows down - the iPhone's processor when it's running on a decayed battery.

Full statement (via Apple Insider): "Our goal is to deliver the best experience for customers, which includes overall performance and prolonging the life of their devices".

The Pentagon spent millions investigating UFOs
The shock revelation has finally disclosed the true aim of the mysterious Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program. Bigelow told the Times that, "Internationally, we are the most backward country in the world on this issue".

The company said it added the fix a year ago to prevent shut downs on iPhone 6, 6s and SE models, then added it to the iPhone 7 with plans for more devices in the future. Apple has since extended that feature to the iPhone 7 with the release of iOS 11.2 and said it plans to continue to add support for other products going forward. Apple's statement Wednesday is likely trying to rid of the "planned obsolescence" narrative that Apple purposely slows down older devices so customers buy a new one. Other aging Apple devices could be impacted by future updates as well. According to separate investigations, it seems Apple is sabotaging older iOS devices by making them slower and their batteries worse. Without the underclocking, users would be more likely to think it is time to replace the battery on their phone because of the need for frequent charging, or they would at least make the decision to sell the phone knowing what the real problem is. Apple really is slowing down phones as they age with use (specifically, as their battery gets worn down), apparently as a way to preserve battery life. Not only will it help your phone last an entire day - it might give it a speed boost, too.

Each new major software release is specially tuned to the latest hardware and it's understandable that bringing it to older phones present some huge hurdles for developers.

Consumers will otherwise be encouraged to download new versions of iOS that will only require more processing power, which will slow things down. His tests seem to suggest that Apple could be throttling the batteries in old iPhones via the iOS updates. It's $79 if you have Apple do it, or around $70 to $50 if you have a third-party fix shop or service take care of it. "We found that a small number of iPhone 6s devices made in September and October 2015 contained a battery component that was exposed to controlled ambient air longer than it should have been before being assembled into battery packs".
