Julian Assange's Twitter account reappears after mysterious absence

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange's Twitter account mysteriously disappeared and reappeared on Monday.

The mysterious disappearance - and re-appearance - of the account proved even more freaky when the U.S. Navy on Christmas morning mistakenly tweeted out Assange's full name, in quotes, and nothing else.

However, some users speculated that Assange was taken out by Twitter as part of the social media platform's recent purge of inflammatory posters, many on the far right, the report added.

The post was a quote from Assange himself, which read: "A knowledgeable public, is an empowered public, is a free public".

An alternative account purporting to belong to Assange claimed Twitter deleted the account as he prepared to break a blockbuster story. However, a source who works closely with WikiLeaks told the Gateway Pundit that they were not aware of any plans for Assange to deactivate his account.

This is all the more puzzling since the main Wikileaks Twitter account were up, as usual, having new posts since Friday, Dec. 22.

The official WikiLeaks Twitter account remained live throughout the ordeal and responded to the incident with a cryptic tweet of its own. The disappearance trended on Twitter, but soon after the account reappeared, initially with only a portion of his followers.
