Pakistan: 3 terrorists open fire at Agricultural Directorate near Peshawar University; journalist, security guard among injured

Police said at least three militants opened fire at security guards near the gates of the Agriculture Training Institute, injuring one person before making their way inside and targeting student accommodation.

Local media reported that police and the army reached the site shortly afterwards and exchanged fire with the attackers.

Four people have been injured in the firing. He said that he is monitoring the operation and that they are trying hard to safe lives of maximum students.

Police and army troops summoned to the scene on December 1 killed all of the attackers at the Directorate of Agriculture Institute in the city of Peshawar some two hours into the attack, the military's press service said.

"All of them were wearing suicide vests but they were killed before they could blow themselves up", Salahuddin Khan Mehsud, police chief of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, told AFP. The area reverberated with heavy gunfire while a huge explosion was also heard.

A report in Dawn said three burqa-clad men entered the directorate and started firing.

"We took shelter inside the bedroom and were begging the injured student not to make any sound as the terrorists might hear it and kill us".

The area where the incident occurred is a hub for educational institutions including the University of Peshawar.

"We also received 18 other people with minor injuries", Muhammad Tariq from Hayatabad Medical Complex told dpa.

Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack. "I got up and within seconds everybody was running and shouting 'the Taliban have attacked, '" said a student.

The injured include a police sub-inspector and a constable. In 2014, Pakistani Taliban gunmen murdered more than 140 children in Peshawar, according to the BBC, making it one of the deadliest attack in the country's history.
