Nasa Planet Announcement: Kepler Discovery Changes Everything

An official announcement on the NASA website said it is gearing up for a teleconference to reveal a major breakthrough made by the Kepler space telescope, which is now hunting the universe for exoplanets.

What we do know is that Shallue and Vanderburg have been collaborating on an effort that uses machine learning to find new planet candidates in Kepler data (PDF link), which would be deemed inconclusive using more traditional analysis methods.

The crew at the Kepler Space Telescope has been hunting for alien life since 2009, and now they have discovered something spell bounding. By using machine learning provided by the tech giant, Nasa hopes that it can pick through the possible planets more quickly and hopefully find life-supporting planets sooner. NASA has called for a press meet on next Thursday to show its significant discovery after searching for life outside our solar system.

Intriguingly, the NASA said in a statement that the discovery was made by researchers using machine learning technology from Google.

The teleconference will take place on December 14 and will be live-streamed on Nasa's website.

Season's First Snow Expected To Fall Saturday Morning
Alabama picked up one inch of snow last night -- in Mobile, for the first time since January 2014. The first significant snowstorm of the season will blanket most of New Jersey on Saturday.

It completed its primary mission in 2012, when two of the four reaction wheels used to position the telescope failed.

Thanks to Kepler's treasure trove of discoveries, astronomers now believe there may be at least one planet orbiting every star in the sky.
Kepler has already found 3,400 new exoplanets, planets which orbit stars other than our sun.

In 2014, Kepler began a new exoplanet-hunting mission: K2.

Besides NASA scientists, Christopher Shallue, Senior Software Engineer at Google AI in Mountain View, California, will also attend the briefing. K2 is also "introducing new research opportunities to study young stars, supernovae and other cosmic phenomena", according to the press release.
