Palestinians slam U.S. veto on Jerusalem resolution

The United States was further isolated on Monday over President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital when it blocked a United Nations Security Council call for the declaration to be withdrawn, reported Reuters.

Before the vote, Egyptian ambassador to the United Nations Amr Abdellatif Aboulatta explained that the draft resolution seeks to ensure that any attempts to alter the characteristics or demographic composition of the Old City of Jerusalem have no effect and are null and void, and must be rescinded.

He called on the global community to adhere to relevant Security Council resolutions and strengthen their efforts for the resumption of negotiations in order to find a solution to key issues, including the final status of Jerusalem.

Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Riad Malki said the Palestinian Authority will resort to the UN General Assembly with a new draft resolution against the US move.

But Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, in some of his sharpest rhetoric since Trump's announcement, reiterated in public comments to senior Palestinian officials Monday that he will no longer accept the U.S.as a Mideast mediator.

Israel considers Jerusalem its eternal and indivisible capital and wants all embassies based there.

Palestine's Hamas group said in a written statement that Jerusalem is Palestine's capital forever, and decisions of the USA and Israel would not change this fact.

"It's scandalous to say we are putting back peace efforts", she added.

The resolution also called for reversing the "negative trends on the ground that are imperilling the two-State solution" for Arab-Israeli dispute.

Kizer's first pass for positive yardage came with 2:35 left in the half - a 14-yard completion to Josh Gordon. That's the weekly question for them now as the 2017 season rolls into Week 15.

Britain's Permanent Representative Matthew Ryrcroft reflected the views of the other members when he said the United States decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital had no legal affect and his country disagreed with it.

Abbas made his remarks at the beginning of a meeting of the Palestinian leadership, held late on Monday in Ramallah to discuss the development of a new Palestinian strategy, in response to the U.S. president's decision.

"This counter-stance against unilateral steps on Jerusalem's recognition as the capital of Israel shows that we are not alone, and our actual concern should be the free world", Merzuk Ali El Ganim, Kuwait's parliament speaker, said in a written statement.

Abbas also signed 22 agreements and worldwide treaties to strengthen the legal status of the state of Palestine on a global scale.

"The United States will not be told by any country where we can put our embassy", Haley told the council after the veto.

The resolution that was vetoed would have called on "all states to refrain from the establishment of diplomatic missions in the holy city of Jerusalem", citing a 1980 council resolution.

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas the USA should no longer be involved in brokering a Israeli-Palestinian peace agreement.

He said Haley "lit a candle of truth" and dispelled "lies".
