Startup company Magic Leap introduces augmented-reality glasses

Magic Leap proves its augmented reality glasses are real

The creator's edition of the headset is slated to ship starting in 2018 in two sizes, and Abovitz affirmed the device would only get better with time as more innovation and technology belt out into the world.

You won't find a Magic Leap price just yet, so we're all wondering how much it will cost.

Magic Leap, the Plantation-based startup that has raised more than $2 billion in financing and now employs thousands in South Florida, introduced its first product on Wednesday. As an example, Magic Leap says that if you summon a virtual TV set and place it in a particular spot, next time you pop on the goggles it'll be exactly where you left it.

On its website, Magic Leap suggested to developers its headset can be used for new ways to shop and explore with 3D objects, project a computer display on any space, play games, connect with other people in a virtual space, and new creative instances.

The Magic Leap One will be controlled using Force control with haptic feedback and six degrees of freedom.

Eagles quickly learn Nick Foles isn't miscast in new lead role
Helen Strus, a spokeswoman for the stadium, said the man fell during the game and that the area where he fell was not closed off. Wentz is out for the year with a torn left ACL, so this is Foles' team as long as the Eagles keep playing.

"Our lightfield photonics generate digital light at different depths and blend seamlessly with natural light to produce lifelike digital objects that coexist in the real world", Magic Leap said on Wednesday. That's in addition to the entertainment and gaming applications that Magic Leap has discussed in the past.

After years of hype and very little substance, it's great to see Magic Leap finally show what it's been working on ever since Google's $542 million investment in the company way back in late 2014. "Here are some of the experiences we've been exploring, but they are just a jumping-off point", according to the company's site. "Our spatial interface includes multiple input modes including voice, gesture, head pose and eye tracking". The breakthrough, according to Abovitz, was that the brain's visual cortex approximates a processor, and that if Magic Leap could render only the parts of a "light field" that the eye is looking at, it could turn it into a headset. "That was the key idea".

We'll continue to track the Magic Leap release date as we all get closer to donning the first developer AR glasses in public. But past reports by publications like The Information have cast doubt on the veracity of Magic Leaps claims about its technology. The company also has a plan to to open access to our SDK along with all of the tools, documentation, learning resources to creators. Magic Leap counts among its investors the Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. and Google.
