Mamma Mia, they are back!

Now Mamma Mia fans are rejoicing after the sequel of the hit musical just released it's first trailer for Mamma Mia!

"Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried return as mother-daughter duo Donna and Sophie, but this time around Sophie is pregnant, and she learns the story of her mother's pregnancy", CNN reported, adding that the icon, Cher, appears as Donna's mother in the sequel.

Lily James plays a young Donna (Meryl Streep in the original film) who moves to a remote island in Greece, only to find herself entrapped in a love quadrangle with three men.

Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! arrives in theaters on July 20, 2018.

But don't worry: the trailer also gives us glimpses of Colin Firth, Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgård, and Dominic Cooper, who are all reprising their roles from the first film. If you're not familiar with the original - beloved for its script, acting and soundtrack - it features a young woman about to be married. The sequel welcomes Lily James to the ensemble, taking on the role of a younger Donna.

But the trailer ends with a special cameo from Donna's mother and Sophie's grandmother, played by none other than Cher. She's playing a grandma, specifically Sophie's (Amanda Seyfried), as Sophie is expecting a baby of her own this time around. Because they're really talking about Meryl Streep's Donna like she's dead?

The first trailer for "Mamma Mia!". As for her fate, we'll just have to take a chance, take a chance, take a chicka-chance chance.

What do you think of the new additions to the cast?

These details have led many viewers to wonder if Donna died in between the events of Mamma Mia! and Mamma Mia!: Here We Go Again.

While we get a few shots of modern-day Streep-and the official press release promises that, yes, the actress will be in the film-the trailer seems to suggest that those appearances are posthumous.
