FCC's Pai cancels CES appearance after receiving death threats

AM ET Pai Passes on CES FCC won't comment on report death threats were cause

"White House Endorses FCC Chair Ajit Pai's Quest To Murder Net Neutrality", reads another.

The sources told Recode that federal law enforcement became involved in checking out the threats against Pai.

It's clear that the FCC's 2015 "net neutrality" order, which the pro-regulatory advocates now insist is gospel, actually allowed ISPs to engage in the very practices that they loudly proclaim the Commission has just now authorized.

CTA, which runs the CES conference, did not provide the reason for Pai's decision. However, according to a report on the AV Club, Pai has pulled out, marking the first time he won't be attending CES in five years - and the first since he helmed the FCC. This was meant to be a "candid conversation" and would have been moderated by Gary Shapiro, president of the Consumer Technology Association.

Game of Thrones Season 8 won't return until 2019
Showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss announced in 2016 it would finish with 13 episodes spread over a final two seasons. If reports are to be believed, the episodes of the upcoming series will be longer compared to the previous ones.

It's not beyond the realm of possibility, though, that the cancellation may have been due in part to the FCC's decision to kill net neutrality a year ago and the subsequent outrage it caused - helped in no small part by Pai's decision to be a condescending pillock to his detractors ahead of the vote.

However, two unnamed agency sources told Recode that Pai canceled his appearance after receiving death threats. Before the commission's controversial vote to roll back net neutrality rules, a bomb threat was phoned in, forcing an evacuation of the agency's chambers while a security team searched the room. Chairman Ajit Pai, Commissioner Michael O'Rielly, and Commissioner Brendan Carr, all Republicans, voted in favor of repeal.

In December the FCC voted 3-2 to overturn the net neutrality rules, meaning ISPs will be able to block or slow down access to certain services.

Clyburn also noted how there were no comments cited in the order from consumers, although millions had signed petitions and protested against the repeal of net neutrality rules: "The public can plainly see that a soon-to-be-toothless FCC is handing the keys to the internet over to a handful of multi-billion dollar corporations".
