Fodder scam: Lalu Prasad Yadav gets 3.5 years in jail

"In India, is Fodder scam the only scam?" A special court in eastern city of Ranchi found him guilty of embezzling around nine million Indian Rupees (around 140,000 USA dollars) during his chief ministerial term in eastern state of Bihar in early 1990s.

The counsel said failure to pay a fine of Rs 5 lakh each under the IPC and the PCA would entail another six months in jail for the RJD leader.

Lalu's son and RJD leader Tej Pratap said the former would get bail soon, adding the "feudal power" could not break them. His son Tejashwi Yadav said that they will approach the high court and also apply for bail after studying the sentence.

Yadav was convicted by the court in Ranchi in the second fodder scam case on December 23, 2017, and has been lodged in a jail since then.

Lalu's lawyer had on Friday, January 5, filed a plea before Ranchi Special CBI Court demanding minimum punishment for the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief on health grounds.

FCC's Pai cancels CES appearance after receiving death threats
Chairman Ajit Pai , Commissioner Michael O'Rielly, and Commissioner Brendan Carr, all Republicans, voted in favor of repeal . However, two unnamed agency sources told Recode that Pai canceled his appearance after receiving death threats.

After three days of arguments on the quantum of punishment, special CBI judge Shivpal Singh pronounced the order through video conferencing.

In Patna, the RJD held a meeting of party leaders at the 10, Circular road residence of Rabri Devi, in which party leaders imposed faith in party chief Lalu Prasad.

The scam is related to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 89.27 lakh from the Deoghar Treasury 21 years ago.

Lalu Prasad was the Chief Minister of the undivided state from 1990 to 1997.

"Since that does not appear to be the case, we will have to do so before the high court where we will also appeal against the conviction". "It is the end of a chapter", said K.C. Tyagi, JDU leader.
