Living Meme Grumpy Cat Awarded $710000 in Copyright Lawsuit

Grumpy Cat visits the SiriusXM set at Super Bowl 50 Radio Row at the Moscone Center

A jury decided in favor of Grumpy Cat Limited on Monday in a lawsuit over Grumpy Cat Grumppuccino by Grenade Beverage, National Public Radio reported.

Grumpy Cat - real name Tardar Sauce - became famous in 2012 after pictures of the sour puss pussycat went viral, spawning hundreds of hilarious memes. In 2013, Grenade's owners struck a $150,000 deal to serve iced-coffee beverages branded with the cat's face called "Grumppucinos".

However the Grenade beverage company continued to use images of Grumpy Cat to endorse other items it was selling, without Bundesen's consent.

A California jury gave the furry frown queen more than $700,000 this week in a federal lawsuit over the use of her identity.

The jury sided with the cat and ordered Grenade to pay United States dollars 750,000 and USD 1 as nominal damage fee for breach of contract.

United States rejects Venezuela's call for "snap" presidential election
After the vote at the assembly, Maduro told reporters that he would stand for re-election if the Socialist Party asked him to. Nonetheless, opposition leaders say they will field a single candidate to take on Maduro.

She later formed Grumpy Cat Limited, monetizing the dour kitty. "Their suit charged that Grumpy Cat Limited dropped the ball on promotion and support for the coffee line".

She became so popular that Bundesen, her owner, quit her waitressing job to found Grumpy Cat Limited. The Post reports that the company earned between $1 million and $100 million during the first few years after its creation. They also complained they were told the cat would be appearing in a film alongside Will Ferrell and Jack Black, but this did not happen. Grenade says Grumpy Cat's product manager "misrepresented the movie" so it would sign the deal. But the only movie Grumpy Cat has ever starred in was "Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas", which was made for the Lifetime Network and earned a dismal 5.1 out of 10 stars on IMDb.

Grumpy Cat now has a whopping amount of cash to go along with its viral fame.

There has been no reaction on the court victory from Grumpy Cat herself, except for a photo posted on social media.
