McDonough bids farewell to Gruden during broadcast

The announcement was made about 90 minutes after Gruden worked as the analyst on ESPN's coverage of the AFC playoff game at Kansas City between the Kansas City Chiefs and Tennessee Titans.

Jon Gruden caused a lot of smirks on Saturday afternoon when broadcast partner Sean McDonough congratulated him on again becoming the head coach of the Oakland Raiders. He last coached in the National Football League in the 2008 season for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

"I'm actually thrilled (about it) because Bob Myers and I had a conversation this morning and I said, "You know, Bob, Gruden's got one title and I've got two, ' Kerr said, a reference to the Warriors" two National Basketball Association championships compared to Gruden's one Super Bowl win with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers". Before that, Gruden spent 10 years as a head coach in the NFL. "I want you", Gruden said, "what do you say about that?"

PAUL BROWN: Brown was the founder and original coach of the Cleveland Browns and led the franchise to 10 straight title games in the All-America Football Conference and NFL, including three NFL titles.

Chelsea 'on brink of signing Ross Barkley from Everton'
Spurs have been long time admirers of the Everton man, but it now looks like they will miss out on the enigmatic 24-year-old.

Jon Gruden is heading back to Oakland. That's a goal that probably motivated Gruden to return to football. Gibbs returned to coaching in 2004 and his second stint in Washington wasn't almost as effective as his first.

Gruden coached the Raiders between the 1998 and 2001 seasons. Shell went 2-14 that season and was sacked after one year. Late owner Al Davis hired Art Shell in 2006, 11 years after firing him the first time.

The Raiders extended Derek Carr's contract last summer, paying the two-time Pro Bowl quarterback $125 million over five seasons. He came back in 2004 and had a 30-34 record in four seasons, leading Washington to two playoff berths.
