Success! Trump's Bogus Election Integrity Commission Is Over

From the start US President Donald Trump’s voter fraud commission was hobbled by the refusal of most states to share voters’ information

News earlier this week of President Donald Trump's abrupt disbanding of his Advisory Commission on Election Integrity appeared at first blush to be a profound progressive victory, one that acknowledges how much of a farce the panel was from its inception. Trump won the Electoral College.

Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach was co-chairman, with Vice President Mike Pence, of the ill-fated and unnecessary Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity.

"Rather than engage in endless legal battles at taxpayer expense, today I signed an executive order to dissolve the Commission, and have asked the Department of Homeland Security to review these issues and determine next courses of action".

The bad news: the Administration is continuing its hunt for voter fraud, based on Trump's false claim that "millions of people" voted illegally in 2016. Clinton received more than 2.8 million more votes than Trump nationwide.

Jon Husted has said voter fraud does exist in OH, but it's rare. State laws have gone so far as cutting back on polling places and hours in minority communities and purging voter rolls to limit eligible voters from casting a ballot.

The White House announced Trump's decision late Wednesday and sent the text of the executive order revoking the May order that created the commission soon after. "The Democrats lost their opportunity, lost their seat at the table, by stonewalling".

Mississippi Rep. Bennie Thompson, the top Democrat on the House Homeland Security Committee, said voter ID laws, including in his home state, are meant to deter voters. "Their motto is, 'Nothing to see here, '" he said.

USA threatens to cut UNRWA funding unless Palestinians engage in peace talks
Haley said the US will call for an emergency session of the U.N.in NY , as well as at the Human Rights Council in Geneva. "I don't think we should be silent".

Kobach and other Republicans have pushed for state laws requiring voters to show photo ID at the polls or to provide papers documenting US citizenship to register.

"This shows that ill-founded proposals that just appeal to a narrow group of people won't work, and we hope they'll learn this lesson elsewhere", Schumer said on Twitter.

On Thursday, Kobach told the AP that the Department of Homeland Security could move forward by checking its list of non-citizens living in the USA against voter registration data.

The inquiry quickly was bogged down by numerous lawsuits; claims that it was acting in secrecy to the point of keeping information from even some of its own members; security and privacy concerns over the voter data being requested by the commission; opposition from both Democratic and Republican state officials; and the lack of credible evidence of widespread voter fraud.

A number of voter fraud cases have been recorded over the years, including 742 criminal vote-fraud convictions recorded by the Heritage Foundation since 2000.

During the panel's first meeting, Trump questioned the motives of states refusing to comply with the commission's requests, suggesting they had something to hide. Kobach is a candidate for Kansas governor.

He followed that up with another tweet asking Americans to "push hard for voter identification". "President Trump can dissolve the commission, but the law doesn't allow him or the commission to slink away from view and avoid accountability".
