Cardi B Replaces Alexa in Amazon's Super Bowl Commercial

Amazon Alexa Can Now Send Text Messages to Any Number in the US

Setting up Alexa's texting capabilities requires going through the Alexa app and then within the conversations tab selecting "contacts" and then "my profile" and enabling the message feature.

Amazon Alexa is now receiving a new feature in the United States, which allows a user to send SMS messages to Android phones.

You need a supported Echo device to send SMS messages. The first time you open the app following the update, you will receive a prompt explaining the new text feature. You then can enable "Send an SMS". All the texts sent would reflect in the smartphone's text app, notes CNN.

Amazon's virtual voice assistant Alexa can already make phone calls and send people quick voice messages.

The feature will only work if you have the Alexa app installed on an Android phone, and have linked your phone to your Alexa device.

China Eastern, Xiamen Airlines cancel Taiwan flights amid routes row
China sees Taiwan as a breakaway province that will eventually be part of the country again, but many Taiwanese want a separate nation.

Amazon also plans to roll out SMS support to Alexa's worldwide markets in future.

Amazon says that there's no plan to extend the feature to iOS users right now since Apple doesn't offer its messaging software to third parties like Android does. All three should be available to US customers in the long term. Yes, customers can now send SMS to others via Alexa.

NSW commuters are to become the latest beneficiaries of voice-based interaction thanks to a new Transport for NSW integration with Amazon's Alexa platform. Amazon claims it can not add the SMS feature to Apple devices since the latter doesn't offer messaging API to third-parties.

In 2016, Amazon announced the Echo Dot - a small, puck-like speaker with a voice assistant built in that could play music, answer simple questions, or do a range of other things through applications.

Companies like Amazon, Apple, and Google are battling to have their digital assistants - along with the required devices like smart speakers - front and center in consumers' homes.
