Manchester City head coach, Pep Guardiola was Friday charged by the English Premier League (EPL) Football Association over his wearing of a yellow ribbon in support of jailed Catalan independence leaders.

Guardiola has been charged by the FA for continuing to wear a yellow ribbon on the touchline.

They say they spoke to Guardiola over the matter in mid-December and have twice warned him he was breaching their kit and advertising rules.

Pep has worn the ribbon for a long time now as a show of support for Jordi Sanchez and Jordi Cuixart, Catalan politicians who were imprisoned in October.

Guardiola said: "I do that because in Spain two specific people who defend something like the vote, something the people in command do not agree (with), are in prison".

"To rebel like that, you have to be something tough to be in prison, and they are still there".

Unemployment on the rise as wages continue to lag
Unemployment rates are calculated by people who are registered looking for work as a proportion of the working age population. Overall migration data have shown a drop in net migration from the bloc into the Britain since the "Brexit" vote.

"In the beginning, in August, we said the same - that we would be judged on how many titles we win".

Guardiola's plane landed at Barcelona-El Prat airport and after its passengers had disembarked, with the Manchester City manager still on-board, several members of the Guardia Civil police boarded to search the plane.

"Like everybody knows, hopefully sooner or later I can stop wearing it (the ribbon). They can suspend me for that but the other people are in jail".

Guardiola's statement came in response to comments from Manchester United rival Jose Mourinho, who questioned whether the ribbon was against the rules and then claimed he would have been fined for doing the same thing.

Last November, Guardiola also dedicated City's Champions League victory against Napoli to the campaigners. "We hope they will be released soon".

Guardiola, whose side face Arsenal in the League Cup final on Sunday, has until 1800 GMT on March 5 to respond to the charge.
