Glass building at Apple headquarters causing headaches for employees

Apple campus

The Apple design guru Jony Ive considers Apple Park to be a masterpiece of design.

Both of the incidents resulted in minor cuts and no hospitalization. Inside are work spaces, dubbed "pods", also made with a lot of glass.

Apple Park was designed by famed architect Norman Foster, based on a vision by late company co-founder Steve Jobs.

If you're planning on heading to Apple's new headquarters in Silicon Valley, you may want to look up from your iPhone every once in a while, not just to make sure you see the pretty architecture, but to make sure you don't run into it. And according to a new report from Bloomberg, the glass is so flawless and unobtrusive that employees keep walking into it.

Housing 13,000 employees, the building might as well be seen as a true wonder where people feel they are free to connect and go as they please.

Apple appears to have somewhat of an office problem as employees keep bumping their heads into the California headquarters' new glass walls. Steve Jobs tasked celebrated British architect Norman Foster to design the company's new headquarters back in 2006 based on his own conception-a giant ideal ring to rule them all, built using giant glass panes, carbon fiber, and ground unicorn carcasses.

Indeed, Apple makes use of visual indicators like that at its One Infinite Loop campus already.

It is not clear how many incidents there have been, but at least seven people were reportedly injured on the first day after staff moved in.

As you'd expect, Apple isn't commenting and won't let the general public into the building. It officially opened to Apple employees earlier this year, supplanting the 1 Infinite Loop campus as the company's main seat of power.

An 83-year-old woman sued Apple in 2012 when she broke her nose after walking into an Apple Store's glass door.

California law says that "employees shall be protected against the hazard of walking through glass by barriers or by conspicuous durable markings", but the company has not been subject to citations, according to US Occupational Safety and Health Administration data.
