Illinois congressmen to boycott State of the Union

On Tuesday, U.S. President Donald Trump will deliver his first State of the Union Address since taking office.

Tuesday's address will be Trump's first State of the Union address and his second speech to Congress since becoming president.

First lady Melania Trump, who has largely stayed out of the spotlight following those allegations, will attend Tuesday's address, according to the White House.

But the atmosphere in the House of Representatives chamber where Trump will speak could be tense. Democrats, many of whom wore white to last year's address in protest of Trump, have said they plan to wear black, echoing Hollywood's TimesUp movement and drawing attention to allegations about the president's own past behavior.

In the speech, Trump is expected to address his plans for rebuilding the nation's crumbling bridges, roads and airports, long viewed by Republicans and Democrats as a potential area of bipartisan support. Lawmakers are facing a February 8 deadline to try to reach a compromise on the issue and pass a new budget measure to avoid a second government shutdown.

Dozens of Democratic lawmakers skipped Trump's inauguration in protest. The proposal was backed by several Texas Democrats at the time.

"We can now say without doubt that Secretary DeVos has never been, nor will ever be, an advocate for students when the forces of money-geared institutions are involved", Grijalva said. However, it can help build a politician's national profile if done well.

Afghan troops die in Islamic State attack on Kabul military academy
Secretary-General said António Guterres "strongly condemns" the attack and said those responsible must be brought to justice. The resident said additional smaller blasts could be heard at frequent intervals following the larger explosions.

"My analysis, however, is that my highest contribution - in these extraordinary times and circumstances where President Trump is himself breaking all established precedents to serve very narrow and self-serving interests - is to stand up to declare that I profoundly disagree with his approach and his unacceptable behavior", Jayapal wrote.

Trump uses language that is "outright racist", Jayapal added. Russian Federation has denied meddling.

Sanders dismissed reporters' queries about the investigations on Monday as "Russia fever" - even though Mueller has interviewed an ever-wider array of former and current top White House aides.

The State of the Union is one of Trump's main opportunities this year to make a pitch to the American public. His job approval ratings are about 40 percent, an alarming number with congressional elections coming in November that will determine whether Republicans maintain control of the U.S. Congress. [For] the past two years, three years, Trump has been pretty critical, pretty negative about the state of our economy, about our place in the world.

"The President is certainly going to tout that", said Rep. "Have a nice world-class event that allows people to focus on his successful accomplishments and not the daily drama". CBS News will broadcast live, primetime coverage of the address and Democratic response from 9:00 10:30 p.m. on CBS, CBSN and all CBS News platforms.

Trump's drive for more reciprocal trade with China and other countries is also expected to be a dominant theme.

Trump himself has indicated that USA trade policy will form part of his State of the Union address.
