Lawyers Give 'Empowering' Update About The 'House Of Horrors' Family

David and Louise Turpin allegedly kept 13 victims confined in filthy conditions in Perris home

David and Louise Turpin appear in court for a conference about their case on Friday. Both David and Louise pled not guilty to the new charges. The judge set their preliminary hearing for May 14.

Defense attorneys, who have asked the public to remember that their clients had a presumption of innocence, told the judge on Friday that they were skeptical they could be ready to proceed with a preliminary hearing in the case in May because of the voluminous amount of evidence turned over by prosecutors.

Other court records revealed some small progression in the Turpin prosecution.

The seven adult Turpin children are now recovering at a medical center in Corona, California, according to their lawyers.

Second, Louise Turpin's attorney, Jeff Moore, filed a sealed motion earlier this week, but the contents are unknown.

"Victims in these kinds of cases, they tell their story, but they tell it slowly; they tell it at their own pace", Riverside County District Attorney Michael Hestrin told the Associated Press last month.

"Our clients need time, space, and privacy while they receive services and begin the hard process of rebuilding their lives", Caleb Mason, an attorney for the siblings, said in a recent statement.

Authorities said the children were starved so severely that their growth had been stunted, and they were only allowed to shower once per year. Beaten, starved and occasionally chained to furniture.

The couple has pleaded not guilty to nearly 40 charges each of torture, false imprisonment, abuse on a dependent adult and child abuse. An additional felony assault charge has been lodged against Louise Turpin.

Pentagon Will Not Confirm Russian Stealth Fighters Deployed to Syria
Russia's move comes despite a promise from President Vladimir Putin to scale back Russia's military commitment in the country. An Israeli satellite on Saturday revealed that Russian Federation had deployed stealth fighters to Syria .

They've also been introduced to Harry Potter movies and iPads, Mr Osborn said. "Sometimes in this business we are faced with human depravity". Participating restaurants in Corona, Riverside and Redlands agreed to donate a percentage of their sales back to the victims and raised over $180,000 for the children, KABC reported.

This abuse likely continued for years, dating to when the Turpins previously lived in Texas and Murrieta, authorities have said.

"They only came out at night", Valdez explained.

According to sheriff's investigators, the family moved to Murrieta in 2010, then to Perris in 2014.

"They [the nurses] talk about how warm and loving these kids are and so appreciative", Spiegel said.

Instead of becoming famous, the Turpins have become infamous.

Attorneys Jack Osborn and Caleb Mason are representing the adult children, and gave an update on their progress to CBS This Morning on Friday.

Louise Turpin, dressed in a blouse and blazer, looked intently at more than a dozen reporters in the courtroom.

"The frequent appearance of photographs or video images of the Turpins in the media may taint potential jurors, prejudice them against the Turpins and make it necessary to explore a possible motion for a change of venue", Macher wrote in a court motion.
