No, we don't need a tank parade

Leader Chuck Schumer D-N.Y. flanked by Sen. Brian Schatz D-Hawaii left and Sen. Bob Casey D-Pa. speaks with reporters as work continues on a plan to keep the government open as a funding deadline approaches at the Capitol

The problem, of course, is that while Trump was planning his parade, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis was on Capitol Hill begging Congress for the money that would allow him to recruit the troops and buy and maintain the equipment needed to keep this nation safe.

It will be a logistical nightmare.

Not to mention the damage a tank would do to the asphalt of Pennsylvania Avenue.

Planning has now begun for what would be the first military parade in the nation's capital since the end of the first Gulf War in 1991, the last time the USA could unequivocally declare military victory. It has uncomfortable dictatorly ties, as it is a favorite go-to event of regimes like the former Soviet Union and today's North Korea. And who does them when the United States is dropping bombs in seven countries around the world? His Putin comment refers to Moscow's 2016 election meddling, which the intelligence community believes was carried out with the intention of helping to elect Trump.

As reported by the Washington Post on Tuesday night, Trump's way to show his appreciation for the military is to hold a parade in his honor that is projected to cost millions of dollars, and it's unknown how the costs would be covered. "This is apparently happening, though, so get ready".

He was impressed by a French military parade in Paris on Bastille Day a year ago, and spoke publicly about wanting a similar one in the U.S. Trump has been talking about one since before his inauguration, and was re-inspired this summer after seeing one on Bastille Day in France. "It was two hours on the button, and it was military might, and I think a tremendous thing for France and the spirit of France".

Man wanted in connection with child pornography pictures circulating Facebook
Law enforcement officials across the country are asking people to stop sharing a video on Facebook that depicts child pornography. Over the weekend, social media giant Facebook warned its users about continuing to share the pornographic video.

"We have a Napoleon in the making here", Rep. Jackie Speier, D-California, said Tuesday on CNN.

Then-President George H.W. Bush smiled as fighters flew overhead while tanks, Patriot missiles, and thousands of soldiers moved past, according to a Los Angeles Times report.

His press secretary said Trump was only kidding, because we always kid around about referring to members of another branch of government as "traitors".

The United States also holds large military displays in the national capital to mark significant occasions, including victories in war, but rolling down tanks and armoured vehicles down the Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington is not their style. Not surprisingly, military parades do not come cheap.

But a military parade could be hard from a logistical standpoint, the Post notes. A potential option is to have the parade coincide with the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I. Does the Post truly think Trump wants this route so people would see his hotel?
