Russian lawmaker says U.S. strike in Syria an act of aggression

True US goal in Syria is control over resources not fighting ISIS – Russian MoD

Officials believe the attack was an attempt by pro-regime forces to take back land the SDF had liberated from IS fighters in September, including oil fields in Khusham. One SDF fighter was injured, the USA officials said.

This is not the first time the U.S. military has clashed with pro-regime forces in Syria. Nevertheless, the official said the USA is looking into whether Russian-affiliated forces may have been involved.

USA and Kurdish forces responded to that skirmish with air and artillery strikes, the official said.

Syrian government forces are active on the other side of the river around the city of Deir al-Zor.

The U.S. -backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), aided by coalition support, are battling Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) militants east of the Euphrates River.

Wave of criticism after Polish Holocaust bill signed
Duda acknowledged that there were indeed anti-Semitic crimes and incidents that took place during WWII in Poland . Before WWII, Poland was home to roughly 3.2 million Jews, the largest Jewish community in Europe .

The official said about 100 pro-government forces were killed in the counterattack.

Officials say the USA was in with Russian counterparts during and after the attack and were assured that Russia would not engage coalition forces in the vicinity. Officials declined to say whether the airstrikes were conducted with manned or unmanned aircraft.

The U.S. coalition said in a statement that the pro-regime forces attacked a headquarters of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), and the U.S. launched the airstrike in self-defense. USA troops were there at the time, but none of them were hurt.

Skirmishes between the SDF and Syrian Regime Forces are not uncommon given the recent major defeats of ISIS, with the retaking of its former capital Raqqa last October, resulting in both armed group's advances connecting. "It's not always readily apparent" what sort of forces they are maneuvering on the ground in Syria's crowded battlespace, he said.
