Trump to pull nomination of top environmental adviser

Trump plans to withdraw climate skeptic's nomination to environmental office report

The Trump administration plans to withdraw its nomination of Kathleen Hartnett White, a climate change skeptic, to lead the Council on Environmental Quality, a White House official said.

White, who isn't a scientist by trade, said at a 2011 forum that "there is no environmental crisis - in fact, there's nearly no major environmental problems" in the U.S.

The Council on Environmental Quality is a White House office that coordinates environmental policy among several federal agencies.

White has been criticized for comments on climate change.

Environmentalists, who had been alarmed by her nomination, celebrated the news.

The Washington Post first reported late Saturday on the plans to pull White's nomination, citing two unnamed administration officials who had been briefed on the matter.

Trump's pick to lead the Council on Environmental Quality, Kathleen Hartnett White, has been criticized for saying the EPA shouldn't regulate Carbon dioxide emissions.

Israeli Cabinet approves legalization of terror victim's community
Eight other Palestinians were injured by the Israeli army, who used live ammunition and rubber-coated steel bullets. On Saturday night, IDF soldiers detained a Palestinian who is suspected of collaborating with the attacker.

U.S. Senator Tom Carper, the top Democrat on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, said it was "abundantly clear very early on" that heading the Council on Environmental Quality wasn't the right job for Ms.

She then corrected herself saying, "No, I'm not". White could not immediately be reached late Saturday for comment.

Hartnett White recommended in 2014 that petroleum derivatives helped prompt the finish of subjection since they "broke up the monetary legitimization" for it. But it's not surprising that her history of taking extreme stances to defend polluters gave lawmakers some pause. But she said she was uncertain about the extent to which humans cause it.

She previously railed against her own party for failing to campaign on the idea that the United States has "almost no real environmental problems".

In any case, Buchele says Hartnett White revealed to him years before that "she bolstered directions, just not to the detriment of development and that industry is really fundamental to a sound situation".

Harnett-White also credited coal with abolishing slavery, claiming "fossil fuels dissolved the economic justification for slavery", and attacked the EPA's rules to limit mercury pollution from coal-fired power plants. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) and Susan Collins (R-Maine), who have fought to clean up mercury contamination, that could raise concerns.

But Ms. White's nomination languished in the Senate, and was among a batch of nominations the Senate sent back to the White House at the end of 2017 when Congress closed up for the year.
