Aldon Smith arrested for domestic violence following his release from Oakland Raiders

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

The Oakland Raiders released linebacker Aldon Smith amid an investigation into an alleged domestic violence incident.

Smith's fiancee contacted a police dispatcher Saturday evening at around 8:30 p.m. PT reporting that she was being beaten up by the former National Football League star at her residence located in the 600 block of Bush Street.

San Francisco police obtained an arrest warrant for Smith on Monday, stemming from allegations that he assaulted a woman on Saturday night.

The Raiders on Monday released Smith, whose brushes with the law have been frequent and well-documented, derailing a promising career.

Smith is facing misdemeanor charges of willful infliction of corporal injury, assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury, false imprisonment and vandalism, according to Sgt. Michael Andraychak. He was being held on $30,000 bail as of this afternoon, according to the San Francisco County Sheriff's Department.

The advisory, which is triggered by the potential for travel difficulties, will start 3 p.m., Monday and end noon Tuesday . Saturday night , there is a 40 percent chance of showers with a low of 36, according to the weather service.

Police said the victim suffered injuries not considered life-threatening during the incident.

Smith has multiple DUI arrests and a weapons charge on his record. In August 2015, he was arrested for an alleged hit-and-run, prompting his release from the San Francisco 49ers.

Authorities were working with Smith's attorney to arrange a time for him to surrender, according to ESPN.

Smith missed the entire 2016 and 2017 seasons while serving a suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy and a number of other things. Neighbor Terri Graham told KTVU she saw a woman who appeared to be Smith's fiancee loaded into a police cruiser and that he possibly escaped down a fire escape.

Allegedly, Smith bit his fiancé's wrists during an argument after drinking two bottles of tequila.
