As expected, Egypt's Sissi reelected with more than 90% of vote

Turnout low as Egyptians wrap up presidential vote

Egypt's pro-government media say preliminary results of this week's presidential election show a landslide win for President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi, who faced no serious challenge, and a turnout hovering around 40%.

In Daqahliya, one of the country's most populated governorates, El-Sisi received 85 per cent of the vote, with nearly 47 per cent of eligible voters casting their ballots.is running against a sole challenger, Ghad Party head Moussa Mostafa Moussa.

Egypt's elections commission threatened to impose fines on those who did not come out and vote in the presidential elections, Quds Press reported yesterday.

According to Al-Ahram, in addition to 23 million who cast valid votes, two million spoiled their ballot papers.

Turnout in the 2014 race that put El-Sisi into office was more than 47 percent, at a time when he was at the height of his popularity after leading the military-backed ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Mursi.

In the Nile Delta governorate of Gharbiya, El-Sisi obtained 90 percent of the vote, with a turnout of more than 50 percent, Egypt's state news agency MENA said.

It is all a question of authorities providing at least a relatively high voter turnout for the elections, which actually became a vote of confidence in the reelected Egyptian leader.

Odell Beckham Jr. Won't Get On Field Without Contract Extension
Off-field concerns are also in play, but the ankle injury that ended Beckham's 2017 four games in is not in line to be a concern. The dynamic wideout is entering the final season of his rookie deal and is set to be paid $8.5 million in 2018.

On March 19, the most populous Arab state wrapped up the three-day voting process of Egyptian expatriates in about 124 countries across the world.

In the last election in 2014, about 37 percent of voters participated in the two-day election.

"The voice of the masses of Egyptians will remain a witness - no doubt - that the will of our nation is prevailing with a force that does not know weakness", Sisi said on Facebook.

Egypt's official electoral commission will officially announce final poll results Monday.

Terror activities in Egypt have killed hundreds of security men and civilians since the military toppled Islamist President Mohammed Morsi in July 2013 in response to mass protests against his one-year rule and his now outlawed Brotherhood group.

The National Election Authority said in a statement Wednesday it will enforce a law penalizing boycotters with a fine of around $30.

'I drive people to their polling stations, wait for them, and then take them back to collect the money, ' said one driver.
