Avalanche at California ski resort leaves 2 injured

Ski resorts in the Lake Tahoe area received 2 to 4 feet of snow between Wednesday Feb. 28 2018 and Friday morning March 2. Heavenly was a winter wonderland

The resort says that the trigger of the avalanche is unknown at this time, but a full investigation of the incident, and its cause will be conducted. In total, over 100 professional ski patrollers, emergency responders, and multiple avalanche rescue dogs responded to the incident.

An avalanche has prompted the closure of the Squaw Valley ski resort in Northern California.

'We had assessed the area to be safe to open to the public and unfortunately an avalanche did occur after that assessment was made, ' Hepburn said. The Sierra Avalanche Center posted an advisory Friday morning.

After performing numerous searches, the scene was cleared, and the Placer County Sheriff's Office confirmed in a tweet that all parties were accounted for.

A blizzard warning has expired but the National Weather Service says whiteout conditions are still possible around Lake Tahoe where 3 feet of snow (90 centimeters) already has fallen and winds gusting to almost 150 miles per hour (240 kph) shut down Interstate 80.

"On behalf of everyone at Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows, we would like to extend our heartfelt sympathy to the guest's family and friends".

Three men and two women were caught up in an inbounds avalanche at Squaw Valley Ski Resort in the Lake Tahoe area Friday afternoon, and the rescue of a snowboarder was captured in video.

Dick's Sporting Goods to No Longer Sell Assault-style Rifles
But gun-control advocates saw the decision by Dick's as among the first steps in a longer process. Walmart stopped selling assault-style weapons in 2015, citing sluggish demand.

"That's what saved his life", said rescuer Heather Turping, according to the Associated Press.

Visitors flocked to the Sierras on Friday as fresh snow came from a large winter storm.

A search and rescue team has found the body of a snowboarder who went missing in a blizzard at a Lake Tahoe ski resort.

Officials say 87 percent heeded the evacuation order issued Thursday when there was concern of a repeat of the deadly debris flows that hit the community of Montecito in January. He was wearing a helmet when he was found.

According to resort officials at 9 p.m. a guest at the resort was reported missing to the Placer County Sheriff's Office.
