Group uses mobile technology to fight TB

Doctors and health staff Can Land in jail 2 years for not reporting TB cases

In 2016, there were 10.4 million new cases - the same as in 2015 - and 1.7 million people died from TB, a disease that kills more people than any other infectious disease globally, including HIV and malaria combined.

March 24 is World TB Day, a good day to take a small action to honor the 1.7 million people who died past year of TB. People who are health workers, doctors, NGO workers, parliamentarians and community leaders can all come together and be leaders in the effort to put an end to TB.

According to World Health Organisation (WHO), World Tuberculosis Day is commemorated to raise public awareness about the devastating health, social and economic consequences of tuberculosis (TB) and to step up efforts to end the global TB epidemic.

While the overwhelming popularity of mobile phone technology can rightly be seen as a sign of a people in touch with modern trends, tuberculosis continues to be a major cause of morbidity and mortality in Kenya. Of the 10.4 million people who caught the disease past year, too few have been properly diagnosed or treated.

The vast majority of TB-related deaths occur in lower income countries.

RESIDENTS in the nation's capital are urged to join the team from the National Capital District Health with its partners to kick TB out of NCD and observe World Tuberculosis Day and expo today.

Despite the stigma associated with TB, it is a preventable and curable disease.

Of the current findings, as many as 420 thousand TB patients have undergone treatment. It is usually when you spend a lot of time with a TB infected person that you too will catch the infection.

An estimated 600,000 people every year develop a resistant form of TB that requires an arduous, poorly effective, two-year treatment that involves eight months of injections, 15,000 pills, and harsh side effects, including deafness, psychosis, and neuropathy.

Tuberculosis is the largest infectious disease killer in the world, even surpassing HIV.

In every one lakh, around 221 are infected with TB, they said. Symptoms of active TB include a bad cough lasting longer than two weeks, coughing up blood, chest pain, fatigue or weakness, fever, weight and appetite loss, sweating at night and chills. Launching TB Free India Campaign in Delhi earlier this month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The treatment of TB is a long-drawn process.

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has been fighting TB for more than 30 years and is among the biggest treatment providers.

Supposedly based on the Guidance Document on nutritional care and support for TB patients in India, Dr Bhargava says that he hopes medical professionals and nurses in private hospitals will use the app to treat their patients. Yet, contrary to WHO guidelines and other global human rights standards, the public health or criminal law practices of some countries allow for involuntary hospitalization or even imprisonment of people with TB, while some countries have laws that permit mandatory treatment.
