Hundreds expected at Vancouver March for Our Lives rally against gun violence

The Woodland Hills Students Against Gun Violence put up posters throughout the halls of their high school

Student activists are set to continue their push for an end to gun violence on Saturday, as thousands are expected to join the March for Our Lives organized in cities across the country and world. "Anyone who travels to the U.S. or has family and friends in the United States could be impacted by gun violence in America, and many already have been", said organizer Bodil Geyer, an American living in Vancouver.

At the stage, students affected by gun violence will headline the program with speeches, including the Parkland shooting survivors.

More than 4,000 people on social media indicated interest in San Jose's march and rally, scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.at City Hall and to proceed down Santa Clara Street for a rally at the Arena Green on W. St. John Street, organizer Hiwad Haider said.

Greer said he was one of three students who participated in a nationwide school walkout March 14.

"Enough is enough", said Demetri Hoth, a student from MSDHS. "We need to bring the Church's voice into this and I want you people of faith to have a voice in this conversation".

"They should be controlled and no one should have a military grade gun". "Ever since then there's only been shootings and no change".

Authorities in the nation's capital said they were taking extra security precautions, in part because numerous protesters are expected to be teenagers.

Every time I walk into school, a question enters the back of my mind: Will something bad happen to us today?

Federal agents and D.C. police will be deployed to provide security for the crowd, which is expected to equal the size of the Women's March previous year and the Obama presidential inaugurations.

I know that our community, where I was born and raised and where my family has been for five generations, is ready for change. We also have to empower the CDC to study gun violence by repealing the Dickey Amendment. We are not safe at school.

"I think it's just people being exhausted of losing other people".

"I believe there's supposed to be like half a million people going and to just stand with that many people, it's an empowering feeling and it's hopefully very moving", Meek says. "It's time for us to take control and be heard".

Great Mills students, wearing their green-and-gold school colors, were among those thronging the main stage Saturday afternoon.
