India's two budget airlines cancel 65 flights over "faulty engines"

India aviation regulator orders grounding of 11 jets fitted with Pratt & Whitney engines

On Monday, a Lucknow-bound IndiGo Airlines flight was forced to return to Ahmedabad after one of its engines failed.

"Hundreds of passengers were stranded after a number of flights were cancelled by both IndiGo and GoAir in the wake of some aircraft going out of operations due to the DGCA order", the Press Trust of India quoted a source as saying.

Three IndiGo planes are already on the ground following the problem.

The DGCA says that A320neos with engine serial numbers ESN 450 and beyond will be grounded.

DGCA said it would remain in touch with the stakeholders including the European Aviation Safety Agency.

A senior DGCA official said 8 aircraft of IndiGo would be grounded.

The current issue with the IndiGo flights pertains only to its A320neo aircraft fleet that are using Pratt & Whitney PW1000G engines. "We have complied immediately", a GoAir spokesperson said.

"We are working closely with our customers to minimise disruption".
